Until recently there were really no great treatments for this other then plastic surgery and we all know that some of those turn out very badly. But there is some exciting news.
Allergan, the makers of Botox™ have come out with a new product called Kybella™ which causes the destruction of fat cells. The active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, is a natural occurring molecule that precipitates the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
The interesting thing about treatment with Kybella is that since it isn’t a temporary solution because it actually causes the destruction of fat cells. This is therefore likely a permanent treatment. The treatment is relatively safe but nerve injuries could occur. Some rare side effects include voice hoarseness, swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and hardness in the area treated so it is important that you go to a well trained injector.
Most patients experience visible results in 2-4 treatments at up to 6 Kybella treatments may be administered usually at least 1 month apart.
